The Pick: 75 Dime Houston Astros Run Line

The Line: At 8:15 am eastern, the number is -1.5 runs, +115

Instructions: Javier and Anderson MUST GO.

Your Analysis

I'm going to get some money back tonight with the Houston Astros on the Run Line, against the Los Angeles Angels.

While I will admit things have been hit or miss for Houston starter Cristian Javier this season, this kid can't beat himself up for a 4.34 ERA when he's 7-1 on the year. Tonight he has the chance to improve both numbers against the Angels, whom he's dominated two times this season.

With his two starts against the Halos - on May 10 and June 3 - he is sporting a 2.25 ERA and 0.83 WHIP, winning both while allowing just three runs on nine hits across 12 innings. Overall, in 10 starts against them during his four-year career, he is 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.

I'm much more comfortable backing Javier, as the Astros look to close this series out and stay on the Texas Rangers' heels, than I am his counterpart, Angels' starter Tyler Anderson.

Anderson is just 4-2 with a 5.25 ERA, and has an alarmingly high 1.52 WHIP this season. And when it comes to facing the Astros, not good at all.

In his five career starts against Houston, he's 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA with a 1.61 WHIP, while the Astros are hitting .283 against him.

Great spot for the Astros to dominate.

The Pick: 1500♦ on the Chicago White Sox (Cease) over the Atlanta Braves (Allard).

The Line: At 6:30 am eastern time, the White Sox are +150.

Note: Both listed pitchers must start, or this is a NO PLAY.

Your Analysis

Somehow the Chicago White Sox managed to end a 3-game losing streak, and also 7 game losing streak in Atlanta on Saturday when the Pale Hose walked away with the 6-5 win over the team with the best record in baseball.

I understand siding with the 39-55 visitors who are taking on the 61-30 Braves is a bit of a stretch, but this Chicago release today is predicated on local boy Dylan Cease coming up with a huge effort against the untested Kolby Allard.

Allard is making just his 3rd start of the season and his last mound work came last Sunday before the All-Star Break when he allowed a pair of runs in one inning of work against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Cease has not recorded a decision since May 23rd, a stretch of 8 starts, when he recorded a win over the Cleveland Guardians. Cease grew up in Milton, Georgie, just north of Atlanta, and will be facing Atlanta for the first time in his career.

You can assume that he will have family and friends in attendance today, and you can also assume that he will be extra juiced for this meaningful start in pretty much his home town.

They don't lose all that often, especially 2 games in a row, but I think today is all about Dylan Cease wowing them in his home town.

Play Chicago.

The Pick: 100 DIME - Minnesota Twins (Ryan) -1 1/2 runs over the Oakland Athletics (Sears).

The Line: At 6:30 am eastern time, the Twins are -1 1/2 runs, -115.

Note: As long as Ryan goes for Minnesota, this play is action, it does not matter who goes for Oakland.

Your Analysis

A stop in Oakland is exactly what the Minnesota Twins needed to open the second half of the season, as back-to-back weekend wins - 5-4, and 10-7 - have pushed the Twins back into first place in the A.L. Central Division, 1 1/2 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians, and I will call for the broom to come out this afternoon versus the 25 win Oakland A's.

Oakland has lost 3 straight and 8 of its last 10 games played versus the Minnesota Twins, and today Joe Ryan will make his first ever start versus the Athletics.

Ryan grew up in San Francisco and will be making his first start as a professional in the Bay Area. He has pitched his best baseball when working during the daylight hours, as he comes into this road start at 5-3 with a 2.95 ERA when he starts during the day.

JP Sears is listed to make his team-leading 19th start of the season, but when you are just 1-6 is that necessarily a good thing?

The Oakland losing streak has reached 6 in a row dating back to before the break, and it really doesn't matter who is starting today's game for the A's, I see another 2 runs or more loss on the horizon.

Go with the Twins on the RUN LINE.

The Pick: 60 Dime - Texas Rangers (Perez) -1 1/2 runs over the Cleveland Guardians (Bibee).

The Line: The Rangers are -1 1/2 runs, +150 at 7:00 am eastern time.

Note: Both listed pitchers must start, or this is a no play.

Today's Analysis

The Rangers are only -130 or so on the money line, certainly a price I am willing to lay, but when you believe your side is going to roll, there is no harm in going ahead and playing them on the RUN LINE and actually getting back +150, as is the case today.

Texas has won the first pair of games in this 3-game set, as they went "clubbing" on Friday in a 12-4 win, and then last night they did their winning the old-fashioned way with their pitching blanking the Guardians, 2-0.

I see the combination of BOTH being on display today as Martin Perez works against Tanner Bibee.

Perez last worked back on July 3rd when he was roughed up by Houston. Skipper Bruce Bochy decided to give the 7-3 Perez an early break, as Perez was passed over just before the All-Star Break to give him a few extra days to recharge,

Bibee does sport a 4.65 ERA when working on the road, and right now the Rangers have the cylinders firing nicely out of the break with 14 runs of offense to their credit.

This is a 2-runs or more win for Texas as they complete the sweep.

The Pick: 20 DIME on the Blue Jays on the Run Line

The Line: The Blue Jays are +125 laying -1 1/2 Runs at 4:20 am pacific

Note: Kikuchi and Henry are both listed
Today's Analysis
Crazy supporting stat of the week: Toronto is 7-20 vs AL East foes. Against everyone else the Blue Jays are 45-21, including 18-7 in interleague action.
Toronto improved to 7-1 in its last eight games overall by taking the first two games of this series vs Arizona, 7-2 and 5-2, and today the Blue Jays go for the sweep against the slumping D-Backs, who have lose seven of nine and scored two or fewer runs six times in that stretch.
Yusei Kikuchi remains consistently inconsistent as he allowed nine runs in 9.1 innings in his last two starts after yielding a total of nine runs in his previous six outings.
This game, however, is all about Toronto's offense - averaging 5.4 runs during the team's 7-1 roll - taking care of business against 25-year-old left-hander Tommy Henry, whose 4.73 ERA in six road starts pales in comparison to his 3.00 mark in eight outings at Chase Field in Phoenix.

The Pick: 50 Dimes - Rays Run Line

The Line: The Rays are -130 laying -1 1/2 Runs at 7:30 am here on Sunday morning in Miami where I live.

Notes: Both starters - Eflin for Tampa and Singer for Kansas City - are listed.

My Analysis:

The Rays ended the 1st half of the season in a slump, but what better way to get their mojo back then visiting Kansas City.

Positive step in the right direction with a doubleheader sweep yesterday by scores of 6-1 and 4-2. No reason not to expect more of the same today with Zach Eflin on the mound as Tampa is 13-4 in his starts.

Kansas City is 2-7 in Brady Singer's last 9 starts and the 26-year-old right-hander's ERA in them is 4.59.

Singer's numbers on the season:

94.2 IP, 112 H, 35 BB, .294 opponent's batting average

Not good when you're facing a Tampa team that leads the A.L. in homers and is 2nd in scoring - especially with the wind forecasted to be blowing out at Kauffman Stadium today.

The Royals are 1-8 in their L/9 overall, and 13-33 at home this season.

The Pick: 100 Dime Texas Rangers

The Line: As of 8 am eastern, the line is -130

Stipulations: Bibee and Perez MUST GO.

Tonight's Analysis

The Texas Rangers proved Saturday they not only have the league's No. 1 batting average and can beat you with an offensive outburst, but they can do it with sound pitching. The Rangers handed the Cleveland Guardians their third straight defeat in a 2-0 win, the fourth time this season Texas won by scoring two runs or one.

Today I have the Rangers completing the sweep, as I see the bats coming to life against Cleveland rookie Tanner Bibee. I know this kid has been as efficient as any other starter in the rotation, but this is a tough chore.

First of all, he's got a 4.65 ERA in six starts on the road, where host lineups are hitting .282 off of him. He also has a 1.52 WHIP away from Cleveland. And the Rangers are a lineup that needed a fresh start after closing the first half of the season with losses in six of eight games.

Texas is off to the right start, winning 12-4 on Friday and 2-0 on Saturday.

Martin Perez (7-3, 4.81) is up for the Rangers, and while his history against the Guardians hasn't been all that savory, he also hasn't faced them in two seasons. He catches them at the right time, and has a good shot at dominating for Texas.

Play the home team here.
